Rheumatoid arthritis is a bit different from regular arthritis. It is an auto-immune disease, affecting your immune system as well as your joints. How will you know if you are affected?
Swelling of joints:
If one or more of your joints become swollen, stiff and painful, then that could be a symptom. Sometimes the joints become red and warm. As we have so many joints, this could affect us almost anywhere, from your neck and shoulders to your knees, your toes and your fingers. Rheumatoid arthritis is a bit tricky – these symptoms may not mean you have it but your doctor can help you.
Loss of Mobility:
If moving your body means chronic pain, then it could be arthritis. This pain could come and go.
Thickening of the Lining of the Joints:
If you feel that the swelling in your joints has been reduced that the actual area still feels weird, then that could mean that the actual lining of the joints have thickened. This is another symptom of the disease.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Diagnosis:
X-Rays:
This is the most common method and this will probably be done first. Even if an x-ray cannot confirm rheumatoid arthritis, it can determine why you are having pain.
Latex Test:
This test is specifically for rheumatoid arthritis. It is a blood test which checks for the rheumatoid factor.
Sedimentation Rate Testing:
If you have been diagnosed with the disease then the sedimentation rate of your blood needs to be determined. Again this is a blood test. If the rate is high, it means you are suffering from an active type of inflammation.
