• Does Milk and Dairy Encourage Arthritis And Joint Swelling?

    In general, diet is not considered to have any lasting effects on arthritis and joint swelling. However, alternative medicine has another take on this. People suffering from this disease can benefit from having a more alkaline diet.

    What does that mean? Well coffee, red meats, cheese, for example have an acidic effect on the body. It has long been acknowledged that if our bodies are in an alkaline state, disease has little chance of taking effect.     Recently milk and dairy products in general have been linked to arthritis pain. We are the only species on the planet who drink milk from another species after babyhood.  Cow milk is meant for calves. However, we have made a huge industry using cows and artificially inseminating them constantly so they will be in a constant state of lactation. Just ask a mother how she would feel producing milk and having a machine suck it out of her system on a daily, monthly and yearly basis? No, it isn’t natural.

    Not only are we encouraged to drink our milk, but there is a huge range of milk products, many including artificial sweeteners. At our huge supermarket, I can only find one brand of sour milk that only has milk and bacterial culture. All other brands have added emulsifiers/thickeners like gelatin, guargam and carrageen. Many cheeses also contain artificial flavorings and colorings.

    But back to the cows. These cows are usually fed grain products so they can mature faster. This can include corn and soy (genetically modified), antibiotics and a plethora of other ingredients that cows naturally do not have.

    Therefore it is no wonder that milk and dairy won’t be the best for your body, especially if you have a chronic disease like arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. In fact, according to research, countries who have the highest rate of osteoporosis are those where dairy products are consumed the most!

    If you do have arthritis in any form or joint swelling then consider giving up dairy for say two months and you will be able to see for yourself whether your arthritis symptoms have improved, got worse or stayed the same. I would encourage you to do this and also experiment with any other foods you think may affect you adversely.
